A Child's Garden...
Submitted by Overbooked on Tue, 04/28/2009 - 3:22pm
When I was little, I loved A Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It was exciting to imagine a private space, designed by children that came to life through their own efforts. Children love outdoor spaces that engage their imagination and curiosity. Backyards can become a child’s retreat with the addition of natural habitat areas, fountains, butterfly gardens, picnic hideaways, vegetable bowers, play cottages, artful birdhouses, and plain dirt in which kids can dig and plant. Your kids will be more likely to eat their vegetables if they helped grow them.
Check out some of the books listed below to help you enjoy gardening with your kids.
There are also some great places to visit nearby and around the state. Explore the botanical gardens at Riverbanks Zoo, the children’s garden at the Sandhill Research and Education Center on Clemson Rd., or cruise down to the coast and see the children’s garden at Brookgreen Gardens near Murrell’s Inlet. Children and their parents will find their own secret gardens in the nooks and crannies of these spectacular places. Related Categories: |
