Have Tea with the Royals!

With the royal wedding coming up in just a few days, the frenzy for all things British is reaching a new height. Coverage on the television about the wedding is seemingly non-stop, and we are learning everything we “need” to know about the royal couple and their families.

If you are going to watch the coverage on Friday, maybe you have planned to celebrate along with the world. There are a number of events --even in Columbia--for those of us who cannot attend (i.e., were not invited to) the wedding. If you are watching with friends, why not plan to celebrate in style by serving some special foods? You can’t go wrong with a morning or afternoon tea.

I realize that the Brits are not known for their flavorful food, not like the French or other cultures. But tea-time fare is really quite good. Have you ever made scones or cucumber sandwiches? No mayo on the sandwiches, mind you, but butter. (I remember having banana sandwiches made on buttered bakery bread with a hot cup of tea when in England as a child. Yum.) But, as I understand from Alice’s Tea Cup, by Haley Fox and Lauren Fox, scones have a somewhat impressive history of being a not-so-tasty treat. So, I’m going to take a leap of faith and try one of the recipes for scones for our wedding fare. I’ll have to let you know how it turns out.

If you need recipes for your day, consider some of the books listed below.
