Longer Days Mean Time for More Things...

...like exercising. Not that long ago, I found that it was dark, or very close to dark, when I got off work. These days, though, it stays light until much later, giving me lots of time to get in some exercise, if I missed it in the morning. Some people like to exercise by themselves, and others like to work out with a group. There are groups around town that can inspire and motivate you to keep going. I'm a part of some of these groups, and I actually look forward to working out. I know that I'll be in a relaxed atmosphere where I can meet people and learn tips/tricks. Just the other day, I was out running at Riverfront Park, and on the way down to the dam, I was running by myself. I felt slow and ready to be done running. On the return, though, I was running with someone from the group, and the run was much better. She and I maintained a steady pace while chatting about different things. Before I knew it, we were back to the start, and I had completed my miles, as well as learned a little more about a fellow runner. Listed below are a few of the websites for different group exercises, though I'm sure there are many more here in Columbia. Many of these groups do not charge to exercise with them, though they are often connected to a store, which may offer other classes for a fee. Remember to talk to your doctor before starting an exercise program. You should also contact the group beforehand to make sure that the events still happen as well as to learn more information. There are other adventures to be had, that aren't quite as exercise-based, but that can get your heart pumping. Many of these activities can be done with your children, and can create a good bonding experience, in addition to being fun. These activities can be done in various places, including the local park, your own backyard, or inside on a rainy day. Doing things with your children can be a great opportunity to show your love, as well as demonstrate to them the importance of activity. Talk to your children about different things they might like to do, so that you can have a good variety. Below you will find a couple books that can get you started, but there are many more!
