Michael Jackson, 1958-2009

Music Icon and "King of Pop," Michael Joseph Jackson unnexpectedly passed away on June 25, 2009.  Fans across the world are shocked and saddened by the loss of this legendary, pivotal figure in the world of popular music.

As a young child, Michael helped propel The Jackson Five with number one hits such as "I Want You Back," "ABC," "The Love You Save," and "I'll Be There."

During the filming of The Wiz, the 1978 film in which Michael Jackson played the scarecrow opposite Diana Ross' Dorothy, the legendary producer Quincy Jones first encountered Jackson's striking talent.

With Jones' encouragement and guidance, Jackson went on to release multiple top-selling solo albums.  In 1982, the ground-breaking album Thriller was released and went on to become one of the best selling albums of all time - with 7 top ten hits and multiple music videos showcasing Jackson's extreme talent as a dancer and choreographer.

I'll never forget Michael Jackson Moonwalking across the stage at the Grammys.  Thriller was the 2nd cassette tape I ever bought with savings from my allowance (I was a huge Cyndi Lauper fan, She's So Unusual was # 1).  Also, I fully admit to standing in front of the TV trying to mimick those agile and impressive dance moves.

My mom got us tickets to the Thriller tour... $30 each!  That seemed like an incredible amount back then.  We were soooo far away we could hardly see the stage but it was all so exciting.
