Recently, when I bought some of my usual collectible ornaments, I had to install a different type of battery. In the last few years, my favorite series have changed the requirements.
It was a new development for the Gone With the Wind series to have scenes from the movie with original dialogue. Classic television series also have these features. Twilight Zone plays its theme on a nostalgic 1960s console.
Within the last years, the batteries have changed from standard AA or AAA to a round LR44 alkaline cell battery. My gift list includes giving new items in a series. At home, I spent an hour trying to open the battery door until someone suggested an optical business where eyeglasses are repaired. So I decided to include a miniature tool that opens the compartment door with the ornament gift. I have installed the batteries and supplied the “screwdriver” with the gift.
My collection is from the Hallmark series and below is a Web site that identifies the current battery style with a picture and specifications, in case you are curious.
Check the Hooked on Ornaments site for this year’s new items or to identify your favorite ornament or series. The details tell whether it needs a battery. Take a nostalgic trip for past favorites in Warman’s Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments as well as the two collector’s guides.
When the season ends, you can remove the batteries from toys and ornaments. Remember to recycle.
