South Carolina Parks

South Carolina is a beautiful state.  Many of its remarkable outdoors retreats can be found right here in Columbia, SC!  If you enjoy recreational activities and being outside, then check out some or all of Columbia's city and state parks.  There are facilities for everything from walking, running, tennis, soccer, baseball, bicycling, roller hockey and even inline skating.  I try to take advantage of these parks as much as possible.  They are great for exercising and spending time with family and friends.  I've even reserved two evenings out of the week to go walking with a group of friends.  What's even better is that there's no fee to gain entry to most of the parks.  Below are some highlights, and much more information can be found on the Web sites below.

Finlay Park - 930 Laurel St. - Features walking paths, 2 playgrounds, a cafe, concerts and festivals.

Granby Park - Off of Catawba St. near Huger St.- First portion of the Three Rivers Greenway, dog friendly, has trails for bikers, walkers and runners.

Memorial Park - Corner of Gadsden and Hampton Streets - Dedicated to the memory of those who have fought and died in service of their country.  Features winding paths.

Owens Field Park - Jim Hamilton Blvd. - Features soccer fields, baseball fields, a roller hockey rink, an inline skating area and walking trails.

Rosewood Park - 901 South Holly St. - Has a paved trail for walking, skating and bicycling.  Has a picnic shelter and playground.

I love going to public parks to jog or play tennis. It makes me feel more a part of the community, seeing others out exercising and enjoying the park. The last time I went to Trenholm Park, a youth football team was holding practice on one of the practice fields. It was so cute to watch the little kids running their football drills and plays! :)
