Review:
"The Sunday List of Dreams" holds everything Connie Nixon has put on hold since finding herself a divorced mother with 3 daughters to raise. Now those daughters are long grown and the reader meets Connie on the day of her retirement from 32 years of nursing work. She has 3 months until starting a new job and plans to clean out and sell her house and start living the list. In a forgotten box Connie discovers her oldest, estranged daughter Jessica's business plans for starting a sex toy shop for women in New York City. Bewildered Connie makes the spontaneous decision to book a flight and reconnect with Jessica in what turns out to be only the beginning of many uncharacteristic moves. During the following weeks Connie discovers herself, sisterhood, and the many facets of feminism through Jessica, her friends and employees and when she reaches the last item on her list her life has taken a very different direction indeed. This emotional book is not just about the complexity of mother/daughter relationships but also an encouragement for middle-aged women to not deny themselves changes and/or new beginnings in life. It will appeal to fans of chick-lit as well as fans of hen-lit. "The Sunday List of Dreams" was a February 2007 Book Sense pick and inspired singer/songwriter Linda Smith to compose several songs for her same titled, new cd. Due to the nature of Jessica's business parts of the book deal with said sex toys and might be offending to some readers.
