Review:

Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli, is about a new girl at an ordinary high school.  When she is on an interview show, the other students at Mica High start to turn on Stargirl.  When she helps an injured basketball player on the other team, everyone turns on her and her boyfriend, Leo Borlock.  Leo has two choices . . . change Stargirl's personality so that she is more like the other students or stop caring what the other students say.  Read the book and find out what Leo chooses.  Great - A must read.

Review:

Stargirl was an amazing book, because there is not another book like it. So many movies and books today have the same pointless story line. Some girl likes soccer and some guy who is her dad says that you can't play soccer. Plus, she has to marry a complete stranger. Every movie or book has that as a story line. Stargirl is a book about a girl who likes to carry around a ukulele, has a pet rat and likes to attend other people’s funerals. She also knows how to handle problems by going to see her old friend, who is by the way an old man, who gives her great advice. This man's name is Archie.

I would recommend this book to any teacher beyond 2nd grade to read to the class. This book is for sure the best of the three books that I have read this summer.

When You Are Engulfed in Flames

David
Sedaris
Review:

Take a peek into David Sedaris's wacky mind in his sixth book of essays, When You Are Engulfed in Flames.

This latest installment will delight those who have already discovered his quick-witted and often biting humor, and will be a great introduction to those who have yet to discover him. As usual, fans of Sedaris will recognize several of the essays in the book, as they have been previously published in The New Yorker, or featured on the radio show "This American Life" - but they are even more hilarious the second time around.

Whether you are a seasoned Sedaris fan or new to his work, you will find yourself doubled over with laughter as you read about his efforts to quit smoking, his fear of germs, living in Japan, and using a nifty little device called the "Stadium Pal." Those who want to experience Sedaris reading the book will want to get the book on compact disc - it features Sedaris as the reader and also includes several hilarious live readings.

So funny, such achingly bad puns and such an imagination for the literary minded. The first book in the Thursday Next series.
