Nursing Resource Center

American Dental Association

The ADA web site is the premier source of oral health information on the Internet.

American Diabetes Association

This site offers information on Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, advocacy options, and discusses advances in scientific research. Local information is available by typing in a zip code.

American Heart Association

Information presented on this site covers heart-related diseases and conditions, healthy lifestyle, publications and resources, and warning signs of cardiac arrest, heart attack, and stroke.

Arthritis Foundation

From this site, learn about the Arthritis Foundation, the only national not-for-profit organization that supports the more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions with advocacy, programs, research, and services.

Cancer.gov - The National Cancer Institute

This site is a service of the National Cancer Institute. Cancer.gov provides links to cancer information, clinical trials, research programs, and cancer-related statistics.

CDC National Prevention Information Network

The CDC National Prevention Information Network (NPIN) is the United States reference, referral, and distribution service for information on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), and tuberculosis (TB).

Centers for Disease Control

The CDC serves as the national focus for developing and applying disease prevention and control, environmental health, and health promotion and education. Explore the site's Health Topics link, Travelers Health link, and Scientific Data and Statistics link. In addition, there is a link to the CDC Fact Book and also a link to CDC en español.

Classics in the History of Psychology

This site provides online access to original classic documents that cover a wide range of disciplines including child development, ethics, sociology and philosophy, in addition to psychology.  Currently, there are 25 books and 200 articles and online chapters. The site also contains links to over 200 relevant works posted at other sites.   Searching is possible by author or topic.

DIRLINE (Directory of Information Resources Online)

DIRLINE is an online directory of over 17,000 health-related organizations and other resources willing to respond to public inquiries in their specialty areas, including toxicology and environmental health organizations.

FamilyDoctor.org

Site is operated by the American Academy of Family Physicians. All of the information on the site has been written and reviewed by physicians and patient education professionals at the AAFP.

Go Local South Carolina - An Online Guide to Local Health Resources

The Go Local-South Carolina partnership is developing a statewide database that will provide information about health resources and services available in South Carolina.

Hands on Health South Carolina

This site was developed specifically for South Carolinians by the Medical University of South Carolina Library, through a grant from the Duke Endowment. Users can find a variety of health resources by browsing or searching. The site pays special attention to health topics of significance to South Carolinians and contains special sections for Kids, Teens, and Spanish speakers.

Healthfinder

Healthfinder was developed by the United States Department of Health and Human Services together with other Federal agencies in 1997. Since then, it has been recognized as an important resource for finding the best government and nonprofit health and human services information available on the Internet from over 1,500 health-related organizations.

Intelihealth

Intelihealth is a medical portal to reliable, Web-based consumer health information. In August 2000, Harvard Medical School, one of the world's preeminent institutions in medical education and research, became the flagship medical-content partner of InteliHealth.

KidsHealth

KidsHealth is the largest and most-visited site on the Web providing doctor-approved health information about children from before birth through adolescence.

MayoClinic.com

The site offers reliable health information for the consumer in areas such as Diseases and Conditions, Healthy Living, and Drugs (prescription and over-the-counter). In addition, users may submit a question to Ask a Specialist to find information about a particular health problem.

Medical News Websites

The University of South Carolina's School of Medicine offers a portal of links for medical news from authoritative sources such as American Medical News (American Medical Association), CNN.com Health, NPR News - Health and Science, Reuters Health Information, and WebMedLit (news from medical journals on the web). 

MedicineNet

MedicineNet provides easy-to-read, in-depth, authoritative medical information for consumers. The site offers Current Health News, Doctor's Views, and information on Featured Conditions.

MEDLINEplus

MEDLINEplus is a service of the United States National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health. The site offers authoritative information from the National Institutes of Health and other health agencies on nearly 500 diseases and conditions. There are also lists of hospitals and physicians, a medical encyclopedia and medical dictionary, health information in Spanish, information on prescription and nonprescription drugs, health information in the news, and links to thousands of clinical trials.

Mental Help Net

Mental Help Net is the most comprehensive source of online mental health information, news, and resources.

 

National Institutes of Health

The National Institutes of Health is one of the world's foremost medical research centers for medical and behavioral research in the United States. The NIH site offers information on various diseases and conditions, procedures and therapies, grants and funding opportunities, scientific resources, and information on current health topics in the news.  

National Women's Health Resource Center

The site of the National Women's Health Resource Center covers general health from a female perspective as well as OB-GYN issues. Especially helpful is the the Questions-to-Ask link included with each topic.

UpToDate

UpToDate offers articles, reviewed by multiple medical experts, for patients seeking current information on a variety of medical conditions and topics.

WebMD

WebMD offers consumers the ability to manage their health with Condition Centers (including information from the Cleveland Clinic), an online medical library, Find-a-Physician, clinical trials, and health and wellness links.
